A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
