Both Deceased Students Revealed in Brown University Shooting as Police Press On With Hunt for Gunman.

Both young individuals who died in the weekend's mass shooting at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – while an intensive search for their shooter continued following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a service on Sunday.

She served as the vice-presidency of Brown’s division of the campus GOP group, as the club stated. The White House press secretary also shared sympathies online, stating: “It's indescribable. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, particularly her mother and father.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his initial year at the renowned school, family members said.

The victim's identification was officially acknowledged by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a online post.

What Happened

An additional nine individuals were injured in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a search at a lodging about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you need to change course and go in another, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our community”.

The gunman discharged a weapon inside a room in the building on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a law enforcement official informed the media outlet.

Officers that raided the hotel seized two firearms and two ammunition clips when the suspect was taken into custody, the news agency reported.

The Wounded Victims

Of the nine hurt, one student was discharged from care, mentioned Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in grave but unchanging health, and one remained in critical care, police said on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private academy in Durham, North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Cook was remembered at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only during her upbringing... but at the university she was an incredible light in that institution as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the club. “She was famed for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she aided her club and fellow classmates,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the student's death in a statement. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to his relatives, loved ones, and fellow students and mourn the loss of his potential.”

The weekend's murders at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US higher education institution with about over seven thousand undergraduate and postgraduate students, happened during one of at least 392 shooting incidents reported in the US so far in 2025, according to statistics. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
