England to Launch the European Championship 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground

The English squad will initiate their Euro 2028 journey at the Etihad Stadium, on the condition that they attain the expected passage for a tournament taking place in the majority of the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

City’s stadium has not welcomed an English men’s fixture since the spring of 2016, when the visitors were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to stage the England side for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.

The English side are set to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, if they top the preliminary round, their knockout stage opener would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean commencing the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Launch and Demonstration

The event was inaugurated at an gathering in central London on Wednesday night. Senior figures from Uefa and the host FAs were barracked as they arrived the location by about 50 protesters, who demanded Israel to be kicked out from global football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Placards were displayed with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Timeline

The inaugural fixture of the European Championship will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a match that will feature the Dragons if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the final, which will be played on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5pm.

It is anticipated that an afternoon start, which will also be implemented for UEFA Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will attract family audiences and help engage a broader range of viewers.

Qualifying Teams

The Irish team are scheduled to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and the Tartan Army would follow suit at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will enter the qualifying tournament; two reserved places will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for the finals through the qualification path.

Locations and Playoffs

The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground complete the nine host stadiums. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals held at each country’s national stadium.

The qualification draw will be conducted in Belfast, which was dropped as a host city last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be upgraded in time, on December 6, 2026.

Leadership Comment

“It will be a competition for the fans and a celebration of everything we value about the game – its fervor and ability to unite individuals.”

Over 3 million admissions, a all-time high for a men’s European Championship, are anticipated to be made available to attendees.
