Fans Demand Custody of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the actress are urging that a person who breached a fence and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating footage shows the Australian man shoving aside photographers and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a event pathway flanked by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being detained", though legal records showed that he was scheduled to be present on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Record of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a performance. His Instagram profile includes recordings of him interrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last December.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is obviously a legal violation," stated an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Fans Voice Worry Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her May 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented another message on Instagram.
Some attendees also faulted guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Response and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande seemed shocked when she was touched by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Many of fans had assembled in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore mall, including several who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it began.
The film, to be released on November 21, is the sequel of a two-film version of the well-known stage show Wicked, which centers on the unlikely friendship between two very different sorceresses.
The production itself is a adaptation of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful film of last year in the UK, and earned ten award recognitions, securing several for best costume and production design.
