Israelis have assembled around the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-conducted offensive on that fateful day in October 2023, as negotiations continued in Egypt over an end to the conflict in Gaza.

The assault resulted in over 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the single deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by initiating a military offensive in Gaza which has killed in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are considered reliable by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"Our bloodthirsty adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the leader remarked on that day.

He also promised to "achieve all the aims of the war: the return of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will no longer pose a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Events Across Israel

The national leadership delayed official commemorations until mid-October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still took place around the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of people who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was conducted in Tel Aviv. Put together by the families themselves, it was televised throughout Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a minute's silence was respected throughout the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas delegations convened in the Egyptian tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of third-party negotiations to examine the terms of the proposal.

A senior representative knowledgeable about the negotiations indicated that an evening round of negotiations began at evening in Egypt.

The source explained the earlier meeting finished without significant progress, amid conflicting views over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not recommence fighting after the opening period of the arrangement.

He added that the negotiations are "challenging and have not yet achieve any real breakthrough," but pointed out that intermediaries are making efforts to narrow the gaps between the both parties.

Essential Matters in Negotiations

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The trade of the captives still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Post-war governance of the area

Public Sentiment

In the city's memorial area earlier, 29-year-old Hagar - whose family member endured the assault on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were lost their lives and numerous more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - told: "Nowhere appears as home now and until each abducted person return no one will feel safe."

"When we see all home once more, we can breathe anew. Then we can begin to heal," she added.

Outside the leader's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people assembled to show their support for the loved ones of the captives. Israel says 48 stay in confinement in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Activist Atalia Regev remarked: "We need do every compromise necessary for the captives to be released. But we really want assurances that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now consistently show that approximately 70% of the population desire the war to end in as payment for the freedom of the abducted.

Palestinian Situation

At the site of Nova festival, grieving people assembled to remember the victims.

From the site, the sound of military attacks and artillery could be noticed just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people reported the intense Israeli attacks continued.

In Gaza City, bombardments were documented in the morning of Tuesday in the west side district, area and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the east side area of that sector, as well the camp to the north-west.

"As the evening comes, the fear arrives with it," relocated urban resident a local woman, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike previously, shared.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the bombings. During nighttime we are lying together, holding each other, particularly my little child who rests his face on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we check the news to see the situation. And I'm worried that this truce will not be achieved and that the conflict will come back to us."

Humanitarian Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area announced it had taken in the remains of half dozen people by the midday, including several killed in an Israeli bombing in the south part district.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of that area said additional dead people had been transported. One of them was lost his life by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get help to the south, medics stated.

The region's health ministry said 25 of the {territ
