Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
