Warrick Stock was shot by a man with dreadlocks in broad daylight, authorities report.

A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country battling entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the 40-year-old media personality was accosted by three suspects, with one opened fire on him before escaping on foot.

The purpose of the shooting is unknown and no one has been arrested have taken place, police said.

The Fatal Incident

Police indicated that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a building near the city center landmark.

He had devoted time at the site supervising the setup of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, it was reported.

"It is alleged the man was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," an official report confirmed.

CCTV footage showed a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what looked like a guard's attire shooting on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.

Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the assault.

Key evidence, like cartridges, were found at the location.

Appeal for Witnesses

Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.

"Evidence suggests they traveled on foot after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to establish their destination," remarked an authority figure.

A Nation in Mourning

His family member, a close relative, expressed the family was struggling to process his death.

"I am devastated. I am shattered," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about issues not many people were ready to tackle. This is a tremendous loss."

She requested the community to not sharing disturbing footage from the incident, explaining this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's three sons.

Life Beyond the Decks

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that premiered on a South African TV network.

Apart from his media career, Stock was involved in various commercial activities, including security provision, offering elite guarding services and protecting prestigious gatherings across South Africa.

He was also understood to participate in property management and participated in property reclaimations.

Condolences Pour In

His death has sent the nation reeling and led to an flood of condolences from his audience, the government and various organizations.

A government minister said he was angry and saddened by Stock's untimely death.

"He spoke his truth boldly and honestly. He even criticized me and my policies as a public official. He was a shining model of who we must aspire to be," was his tribute.

A party figurehead said the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a shock for all South Africans".

A media executive said that "DJ Warras was not merely a face of a reality series. He was a gifted communicator, a passionate music lover and a generous spirit who brought happiness and vitality to every performance. His commitment to his craft left an lasting impression."

In a communication, the network he worked for declared Stock was known for his magnetism, approachability and sharp wit, adding that his legacy "will endure".
