Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future after another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this game so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
Slot lamented familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell of this nature with performances so bad.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to its rightful place, prove once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
