The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that Pluribus would emerge as a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the hit series reaching its finale—and a second season already in development—the creative team reflected on the fan response and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Fan Response

One could easily to get swayed by the rampant praise and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Will Vince Gilligan See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by audience theories, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
