The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:

  • Every squad has only 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.

Player Responses: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another lists all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
